Isle of Wight Rail Has Been On Strike For 40 Years

Isle of Wight Rail revealed yesterday that they have been on strike since the mid-1970s.

Coinciding with the London Tube strikes this weekend the announcement from Isle of Wight Rail came as a shock to Island residents who had no knowledge of the strike and have continued using the service since.

Speaking on behalf of fellow employees a trade union spokesperson for Isle of Wight Rail announced:

“The employees of Isle of Wight Rail have been on strike since 1974. We are not quite sure what the dispute was about, all we know is that it has not been resolved. Until it has been we will not return to work.”

Visitors and Island residents however, have however been frequenting the rail service since the strike began. The train service has been running smoothly and is well staffed by a number of unknown individuals.

“This comes as a major disappointment to us. We had no knowledge of and do not know who these so-called staff members are, said the trade union spokesperson. Whoever they are they are standing in the way of reconciling the issue that caused us to strike. We were expecting it to be resolved  and to find out what it was  within the next five years or so.”

Island residents continue to use the rail service oblivious of the continuing strike.

“Oh the train service here is been excellent”, said amateur railway enthusiast and frequent train user Wendy Compott. “I remember it used to be a shambles up until 1975 or 1976, truly diabolical. Since then it has been wonderful, smooth as a priests bowling ball.”
