Isle of Wight Fears Outbreak of First World War as Residents Welcome 1914

New Year festivities across the Isle of Wight were bittersweet. Whilst residents celebrated the start of 1914, international relations with Germany have begun to show signs of what many Island officials believe to be an oncoming global war, the likes of which none have ever seen before.

Revelers this New Years Eve in Ryde enjoyed an jolly good night packed with romps and rip-roaring japes aplenty as they danced away the last few hours of 1913. Girls and boys, chaps and ladies were treated to a slap-up fireworks display as the bells chimed in the start of 1914.

Tensions within the walls of the Isle of Wight council were not so marvelous however, as whilst we may be enjoying a good old fashioned foxtrot with our partners over here in blighty, the Kaiser and those ragamuffins across the English channel appear to be up to no good as per usual.

Isle of Wight Councillors have warned us all that we may be on the brink of what could be the greatest war known to man, one which is set to shake the entire world.

Those confounded scoundrels in Germany are up to something, I can feel it I say! I just know those absolute rotters will be on our heels before the year is out. said Cllr. Archibald Trotter.

In other news Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir presumptive to the Austro-Hungarian throne, and his wife, Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg have announced that they believe this year will be an excellent year for sandwiches, specifically those sold at Schillers delicatessen, Sarajevo.
