Residents across the Isle of Wight were thrilled last night as the existence of Island was acknowledged on a TV quiz show.

As people across the Isle of Wight settled down to enjoy dinners in front of TV sets they were treated to a rare acknowledgement from national television that the Isle of Wight does in fact exist.

Season 590, Episode 6732 of the much-loved quiz show The Chase contained the question “Where would you find the UK’s oldest post-box?”. Options included: Cockton-on-the-Tease; Lower Badger; Spongeford; and the Isle of Wight.

Contestant Maggie Spatch incorrectly answered Cockton-on-the-Tease and was subjected to a barrage of passive-aggressive scoffing from the Chaser.

“I didn’t even know we had Islands anymore. I assumed that we lost control of them all during Brexit” said Ms Spatch.

Island resident Clarissa Pram was overjoyed with the mention. “It was an absolutely historic moment for us all,” said Mrs Pram. “I immediately turned to my husband and said: ‘that’s where we live!’ I was trembling with excitement for hours afterwards.”
