70mph Gail Platts Cause Disruption Across Island
Commuters this morning were faced with long delays as an influx of Gail Platts swept down across the Island.
The strong Gails were caused by a drop in air pressure spreading along the north and south of England. Weather from across the North Sea brought with it Gails reaching speeds of up to 70mph.
Bus and rail services across the Island came to a halt this morning and many commuters were left stranded as Gails ripped down trees, blocking off roads near Newport, Ryde and Shanklin.
600 homes woke up without electricity this morning as the Gails tore through power-lines.
Residents are advised to take care when leaving the house, on foot or in vehicles. The Gails are expected to continue for the next couple of days before returning north.
